In partnership with the NSW Government’s Skilling for Recovery and Summer Skills initiatives, DATS are offering Fee-Free courses for eligible students in a bid to help individuals develop their skill-set for future employment in the construction industry.

What is Skilling for Recovery?

Skilling for Recovery (SfR) is part of a matched funding commitment of almost $320 million between the NSW and Australian governments under the JobTrainer Fund. SfR is a key component of the State’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan. It includes part qualification training places to reskill, retrain and redeploy the workforce to industries where there are skills shortages and emerging employment opportunities.

The program will provide access to fee-free training for eligible students who enrol and commence in part qualifications no later than 31 December 2021.

Am I eligible for Fee-Free Training?

To be eligible for fee-free training under Skilling for Recovery you need to:

  • live or work in NSW

  • be aged 15 years or older

  • have left school

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.

You must also meet one of the following criteria.

  • Unemployed

  • Receiving Commonwealth Government benefits

  • 17 – 24 years of age (regardless of employment status)

  • At risk of unemployment (as specified by the Department)

What courses are available?

Available training includes nationally accredited short courses in:

  • White Card

  • Forklift

  • Elevating Work Platform (under 11m)

  • Work safely at heights

  • Confined Spaces

  • Excavator

  • Skid Steer

  • Roller

  • Dogging

The Summer Skills program is a strategy supporting young people, particularly school leavers, to obtain the skills they need in industries where there are immediate job opportunities.  

The program will provide access to fee-free training for eligible students who enrol and commence in part qualifications no later than 31 December 2021.

Am I eligible for Fee-Free Training?

To be eligible for fee-free training under the Summer Skills program you need to:

  • live or work in NSW

  • be aged 16 - 24 years

  • leaving year 12 in 2021 or have left school

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.

What courses are available?

Available nationally accredited courses include:

  • COMBO 1 - White Card, Forklift

  • COMBO 2 - White Card, Excavator, Enter and work in confined spaces, and Work safely at heights
